Memorial Day
In my humble opinion, Memorial Day weekend is about three things.
1. Remembering and mourning for the loss of life that we have to deal with. Be it from combat or suicide, it is ok to take time to cry or be mad about not having those loved ones in our lives anymore.
2. Taking time to live your life to the fullest in honor of those who no longer can. Be reminded that they are looking down at us and want to see us thrive, even if they cannot pat us on the back, share a toast, or call to say how proud they are of you.
3. Doing all you can to live a life in their honor and help those around you. Do not let their sacrifices and loss be for nothing.
To those of you who have lost a fellow loved one: To one degree or another, I understand what you feel this weekend. But let us not see this simply as a long weekend, or a reason to not celebrate our lives, as well as theirs. Remember them, honor them, and help those who are struggling so that they do not follow in our loved one’s footsteps.
