The 2nd Amendment

As someone who has been involved within the political sphere, in varying degrees, I feel the need to address an issue/question that is considered a “third rail”. That being, when is it appropriate for Americans to use the Second Amendment to its fullest potential?

Republicans in office, and especially on the campaign trail, love to proliferate how staunchly they support the Second Amendment, yet rarely lift a finger to restore, let alone preserve, those rights. And, like their Democrat counterparts, will condemn any use of force that American citizens use in order to defend themselves from corrupt government institutions. This should be of no surprise, though it is important to point out as a reminder that they are not truly on the People’s side.

Our history is full of neighbors and countrymen taking up arms against corruption within their local, state, and federal governments. If you have not heard of any of the ones listed below, I recommend you look into their successes and failures.

-American Revolution - 1776
-Bacon’s Rebellion - 1776
-Shay’s Rebellion - 1786
-American Civil War - 1861
-Battle of Athens - 1946
-Bundy Standoff - 2014

These are a handful of instances where regular Americans stood up to their government and took decisive action. And regardless of their success or failure, a clear message was sent.

Unfortunately, in today’s society, I worry that there are too few of us who would answer the call, let alone hear it. So, that forces me to ask the question: What would trigger an appropriate use of the Second Amendment to its fullest potential?

Is it government overreach? I doubt that given the past 20 years of accepted abuse, be it from the Patriot Act to the 2020 Lockdowns. Is it foreign invasion? Millions flood into our nation every year and pillage our lands without any opposition. Or is it confiscation? I also doubt that given the extensive bans in many states, and the arrests that have unfolded in states like NY with the sentencing of Dexter Taylor. After all, “fight it in court” has become a saying that continues to prove itself as a form of surrendering our rights given the lack of wins our side has earned.

As dramatic as this may sound, we all must ask ourselves the same question that the Founding Fathers did: What is worth pledging our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor for?

Once that question is answered, and in the unfortunate event that an appropriate situation occurs, we must then use all that is at our disposal to act as Modern Day Minutemen. Just as those in the thirteen colonies came to the aid of their fellow countrymen who were besieged in Boston; and thus sparking the birth of our nation. #FindYourHill
