Colleagues/Coworkers

Regardless of what your profession is, we all have colleagues. Unfortunately, I have heard all too often that many friends are equally as excited about the end of their day not only to be done with work, but also to be away from their coworkers. And while we all have “that person” in mind, the one who you dread interacting with, that is most likely not the case for every coworker of yours.

Like getting to know your neighbors, you should see your coworkers as potential allies. I am not suggesting you invite them all over for dinner right off the bat, but you should pursue conversations that allow you to test the waters of what type of person they are outside of work. What are their hobbies, interests, and morals?

I recommend this for two reasons. One, you know that they live relatively close to you given you both commute to the same location. Two, they may feel isolated and are looking for someone to share their interests with. So, with all that said, introduce yourself to the new-hire, ask a colleague you don’t usually socialize with to grab a bite or drink after work, and be neighborly within your workplace. #FindYourHill
