Conversation and Information
Being comfortable when meeting new people is imperative to broadening your sphere. Along with that, it is a useful when gathering information. Not only should you be comfortable meeting strangers, but you should be skilled at it. Regardless of whether you are an introvert or extrovert, I challenge you to better yourself in this regard.
Next time you are in a public setting, be it in a bar, on an airplane, or at sporting event, strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you. Experiment with different techniques of directing the conversation in a certain direction. Play a game with yourself by seeing if you can gain certain bits of information from the stranger. Where are they from? What is their profession?
By studying the person’s appearance, you can find clues that can help in the conversation. Are they wearing a wedding ring, or perhaps a graduation ring from a known university? Are they wearing a piece of clothing in support of a sports team? Does the background on their phone give anything away? Do they have any tattoos that stand out?
Like the game Clue, use the hints that you can find and build from there. By the end of the conversation, and at the very least, you will have practiced a valuable skill. At best, you may have found a new ally/friend. #FindYourHill
